How do I know if therapy is right for me?If you're experiencing emotional distress, depression, anxiety, trauma, struggling with relationships, or feeling stuck in life, therapy could be beneficial. In general, there are two questions to ask: 1. Is this problem distressing? 2. Is it interfering with some aspect of your life? (e.g. I have difficulty focusing on my work because I keep thinking about this issue) It's worth exploring therapy if the answer to any of those questions is yes so that you can receive support and guidance to navigate life's challenges.

Why would I need therapy if I am a Christian and have all my needs met by God already? We operate from the lens that God created all sciences and mechanisms as support. While we believe that all needs can be met through the work of God, we also believe that God uses people and the plethora of knowledge and skill obtained through science to promote His own purposes. For example, imagine you are a preacher who has plans to preach a sermon on Sunday, however while on the way to your congregation your car breaks down 15 minutes away. Thankfully you have a friend in the car with you who has expertise in fixing cars. So instead of walking the rest of the way to the congregation, or praying that you somehow teleport to the church, you ask your friend to fix the car so you can be on your way to fulfilling God’s purpose for your life that day. This illustration demonstrates how God can use an individual (the mechanic) to utilize his profession (mechanics) to support another in fulfilling God’s purposes for another individual (the preacher). It would be highly ineffective had the preacher ignored what has been provided to him simply because mechanics has nothing to do with biblical principles or salvation. Similarly we believe God also created and allowed development in the area of psychological science to be utilized when available to manage mental health concerns and stressors (e.g. depression, anxiety, interpersonal issues).

What if I’m not a Christian but want services at Restore Psychology?Welcome, we are so glad you are here! At Restore, we are using evidence based treatment modalities to help our clients with a variety of presenting concerns from diverse cultural backgrounds. While our clinicians find their personal foundations in Christianity, they are trained to work with individuals from diverse spiritual backgrounds. Each of our clinicians take an honest and collaborative approach both during the initial phone call and during treatment planning to ensure that all clients are active participants in their treatment planning and can make an informed decision about their care. Prior to any treatment your clinician will discuss with you the goodness of fit during an initial phone screen. If either client or therapist finds that this might not be a good therapeutic fit due to a variety of variables (e.g. timing of session, session costs, level of care, cultural or personal misalignment) then a discussion around care coordination will be prompted by the mental health professional to ensure you get the best care possible. At Restore, we excitedly welcome all people from all backgrounds and beliefs while holding to the foundations of Biblical Truth and Christian faith. While each of our clinicians acknowledge this as our foundation, we are dedicated to providing mental health support to anyone who walks through our doors with positive regard and mutual respect.
